Tasks: Task 1.1.Review and compile available data on the geographic distributions and the interactive effects of temperature and ocean acidification (OA) on the physiological tolerance and responses of key animal groups | Task 1.2 Standardization of methodology for CO2 and temperature treatment, and thermal tolerance experiments | Task 1.3 Standardization of methodology for oceanographic coupling. Milestones: Month 1: State of the art workshop (M1.1) | Month 6: Completion of WP1 and online discussion of report (M1.2). Deliverables: Month 9: report on methodological standardization and state of the art (D1.1) | Month 9: Review paper on interactive effects of Temperature and OA (D1.2).

WP2: Mechanistic, predictive capacity (Months 6-30).

Leader CONICET. Main aim: To conduct experiments revealing the physiological limits of thermal tolerance of key ecological and/or commercial species as influenced by the interaction with acidification. Tasks: Task 2.1: Collection of specimens in situ and maintenance for standard acclimation | Task 2.2: experimental treatments using a standardised protocol of 4 combinations of temperatures and pCO2 levels | Task 2.3: thermal limit experiments using standard procedures for the determination of minimum (CTmin) and maximum (CTmax) temperature tolerance. Milestones: Month 6: Species profiles uploaded on webpage (M2.1) | Month 22 Experimental results online (skype) discussion (M2.2).Deliverables: Month 27: report on experimental results (D2.1) | Month 30: Paper on experimental results (D2.2).

WP3: Actionable science, Projection modelling (Months 24-36).

Leader UHamburg; Main aim: To couple ecophysiogical data with oceanographic modeling. Tasks: Task 3.1 SST modelling: The oceanographic predictions from both the present-day and future model runs will be processed to obtain the temporal and spatial variability of SST. | Task 3.2 Coupling ecophysiology data to oceanographic models: Modelled temperature will be coupled to the thermal limits of the key species for both the present day projection and the future scenarios in order to estimate the limits of distribution and the thermal habitat suitability using present-day and near-future levels of CO2. Milestones: Month 24: Integrative Workshop on coupling ecophysiology data with oceanographic modelling (M3.1) | Month 30: SST current data and future projection coupled with experimental data to yield thermal habitat suitability maps (M3.2). Deliverables: Month 27: report on ecophysiology-oceanographic modelling coupling (D3.1) | Month 36: For each case study, paper on the thermal habitat suitability, thermal limits and future projections (D3.2).

WP4: Outreach and dissemination (Months 1-36).

Leader CNR. Main aim: To raise awareness of the potential climate change impacts on the vulnerability of key species at the economic and societal levels and widely disseminate the project’s methods, tools and accomplishments. Tasks: Task 4.1 Web based communication: this will include the development of a project portal with the ability to share outcomes on social networks.| Task 4.2 Coordination of dissemination, participation to scientific conferences and publication plans will be achieved by the interaction between the coordination and each WP leader. | Task 4.3 Coordination of dissemination to stake holders, meetings with policy makers and stakeholders. Milestones: Month 3: Website initialized (M4.1) | Month 24 first workshop with stakeholders (M4.2). Deliverables: Month 6: Functional website for CLIMAR (D4.1) | Month 24: First stakeholder meeting report (D4.2).

WP5: Integration and synthesis (Months 30-36).

Leader CNR; Main aim: To produce a synthesis of all the
deliverables and tasks in all WPs to show the benefits and synergies among case studies and participant countries and to produce usable tools for the stakeholder, environmental management and the natural and social science communities. Tasks: Task 5.1 Integration and synthesis of synergy among participants | Task 5.2 Integration and synthesis to be communicated to stakeholders. Milestones: Month 36: Integrative workshop with stakeholders (M5.1). Deliverables: Month 35: A synthesis report of the results from the geographical and system case studies (D5.1) | Month 36: Integrative workshop with stakeholder meeting report (D 5.2) | Month 36: Discussion paper on coupling ecophysiogical data with oceanographic modelling (D5.3).

WP6: Project management (Months 1-36).

Leader CNR. Main aim: To ensure the effective organization and supervision of the project, including the scientific and funding aspects, guarding the liaison between the Workpackages, Task and Case Studies and timely communications with the Eranet Commission and with each national funding partner organisation. Tasks: Task 6.1. Financial and management reporting: Financial and management reporting will be undertaken on an 12month basis by the coordination group, as defined in the consortium agreement and the workplan. | Task 6.2 Scientific reporting: Scientific reporting will be undertaken on an 12month basis by the coordination group, as defined in the consortium agreement and the workplan. | Task 6.3. Monitoring the project progress: A risk register, process diagram and detailed Gantt chart will be setup during the first month of the Project. The partners will report to the scientific steering committee (SSC, composed of the four PIs, i.e. one person per partner) every 6 months on the progress of the project, and identifying delays and any potential challenges to the work program. | Task 6.4. Communication: This task insures that the project webpage has been constructed and contains updated information about the project including all reports | Task 6.5. Project meetings: A kick off meeting will be organised at the start of the project (month 1) to initiate the project. Another three project meetings will be held in months 12, 24 and 36.
